The information on this page relates to Nurses who meet with the EU Directives for Automatic Recognition of Acquired Rights.
In the NMBI process, this is referred to as a G1 Applicant.
If you fall into the G1 category, the process is quite simple. It is summarised below into six basic steps and explained in the video.
Register on the NMBI website for a registration account (https://my.nmbi.ie)
Once you set up an account, you will receive an email to verify your account. Complete this step and then sign in to your account.
On the first page, click the link at the end of the sentence

Then fill in all your details
Step 3
You will then be taken to a page to fill in your Nationality and Nurse training details to establish your Recognition path. You just need to answer the questions asked.
Based on your CV, you will fall into the Automatic Recognition (G1) path
Step 4
You will automatically be taken to the next page to acknowledge your reason for registration, and again you just need to answer the questions asked.
Step 5
You will then be taken to the document page and will need to Upload the following documents
- Copy of passport
- Evidence of Formal Qualification/Diploma
- Diploma or Parchment or official evidence that you completed your training.
- Certificate of Conformity
- A certificate used amongst EU regulators.
Your home competent authority (regulator in the country you trained in) produces a certificate that mentions that your education programme fulfils the requirements of Annex V of Directive 2005/36/EC. This certificate is created for G1 applicants.
- or Certificate of Acquired Rights
- A certificate used amongst EU regulators.
Your home competent authority (regulator in the country you trained in) attests that you have practised for a certain period before the date of the certificate (three years for general nurses and two years for midwives out of the last five years.
This is generally required when your training does not meet the minimum training requirements as described in Annex V of Directive 2005/36/EC. This certificate is produced for G1 applicants.
- Certificate of Current Professional Status/Certificate of Good Character
- A certificate produced by a regulator in a jurisdiction where you practised nursing or midwifery. Some countries have regional regulators, while others have national ones.
The certificate states your registration dates, registration status, and if you have any Fitness to Practise restrictions
- Translations of any documents that are not in English

Step 6
Finally, you will be taken to the payment page, and you will need to make a payment of €350
This is the process to get your qualification recognized. Once completed, all that will be outstanding will be your proof of competency regarding English which will be either your OET or IELTS certificate.
